"Honeydripper" (Emerging Pictures)

John Sayles' homage to the roots of rock & roll, "Honeydripper," is set in Alabama, ca. 1950. The movie, shot in Alabama, is replete with Southerners, including many locals. Tyrone Purvis, owner of the Honeydripper, is played by Danny Glover, whose mother is from Georgia. Charles S. Dutton, who takes on the role of Maceo, is from Baltimore, and Davenia McFadden (Nadine) hails from South Carolina. Mary Steenburgen, who appears as Amanda Winship, is from Arkansas, and Texan Gary Clark, Jr., plays the avant garde guitarist, Sonny.

Writer/director John Sayles is no stranger to the South. His "Sunshine State" was set in Florida, "Lone Star" in Texas, and "Passion Fish" in Louisiana.
